To assess the performance of cellular mobile operators (CMOs), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) carried out an independent quality of service) survey in sixteen cities throughout Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PTA Service survey tested voice conversations, SMS, and mobile broadband/data sessions over 60 days, covering 2,270 kilometers per CMO. Utilizing cutting-edge quality of service monitoring techniques, 250,000 mobile broadband tests, 45,000 calls and SMS tests, and 130,000 Ookla speed tests were used to guarantee compliance with NGMS licenses and the Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service Regulations 2021.
CMOs were ranked based on key performance indicators (KPIs) in mobile network coverage and voice services. Jazz, Ufone, and Zong jointly secured first place in network coverage. Zong led in mobile broadband speed (Ookla), while Jazz was ranked 1st in mobile broadband speed (auto mode testing) and voice services. These rankings reflect specific survey areas.
Overall, CMOs met the upload/download speed standards, with improved network latency and webpage loading times. However, some voice KPIs fell below-licensed thresholds in certain areas. The PTA has instructed operators to take corrective measures to enhance service quality. PTA Service survey results are available on PTA’s website for subscriber information. This monitoring activity encourages better mobile services and promotes healthy competition among operators.
