Apple‘s new updates indicate that the tiny cracks on your Apple Mobile phones or watches are no longer covered under Apple’s standard warranty, meaning you will need to pay for the repair yourself.
The standard one-year warranty only covers dents, broken parts on ports, and scratches due to defective materials or artistry. Before this update, a single hairline crack could be considered a screen defect. It can be repaired for free, but the cost could vary depending on the location.
Now, Apple advises its stores and authorized service providers to treat all hairline cracks as accidental damage, which means customers will have to pay for the repairs. This change affects Apple, iPhone watches, iPads, and Macs.
Depending on the model, fixing an iPhone screen outside of warranty can range from $129 to $379; however, if you have Apple Care Plus, the cost only reduces to $29. Fixing an Apple Watch can range from $249 to $800, but with Apple Care Plus, it just costs $69 to $79.
Despite this change, Apple has taken some steps in the right direction with fixes. In 2022, they introduced a Self-Service repair program that enables customers to replace the batteries, screens, and cameras on their iPhones. Additionally, they reduced the price of fixing a cracked back glass on the most recent iPhone 15 Pro to $199, and later this year, they will permit repairs on some iPhone models using pre-owned original parts.
