PM Shehbaz and Bill Gates Boost Pakistan's Health and Digital Future

Today, Bill Gates, the founder of the Gates Foundation, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House. The visit was organized after the Prime Minister invited Mr Gates to their World Economic Forum meeting in Riyadh.

The Prime Minister welcomed Mr Gates and gave an update on the government’s initiatives to eliminate polio, improve health coverage, adjust to climate change, and attain economic stability.

The PM stated that he was grateful for the Gates Foundation‘s support in helping Pakistan develop its economy and that a digital ecosystem would boost revenue, improve governance, and free up more funds for public welfare. He highlighted the mutual goals of the Gates Foundation and the Government of Pakistan, which include promoting financial inclusion, reducing the gender gap, expanding health care, improving food security, and adapting to climate change. Mr. Gates received updates from the PM about the challenges and advances in these fields.

Mr Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Gates Foundation for supporting Pakistan’s effort to eliminate polio. He affirmed the government’s strong commitment to eradicating polio. The PM also explained the government’s plan to deal with the recent rise in wild poliovirus infections, stressing that all available resources will support polio workers. He promised to personally supervise all national initiatives aimed at curing the illness.

Bill Gates expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s commitment to eliminating polio and his faith in the government’s immunization program. He emphasized the crucial role of digital technology and data science in improving Pakistanis’ lives. The two sides decided to continue working together to end polio, improve health care throughout all provinces, and guarantee prosperity for everyone, especially women and girls.
