Heatwave Melts Lincoln Statue In Washington DC

A wax figure of the former American President Abraham Lincoln couldn’t escape the extreme heat wave that hit Washington, DC. The 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, has a statue at Camp Barker, a refugee camp utilized during the American Civil War.

As the temperature started getting high, the statue began to melt. First, the head melted down, then the body separated from one leg, and at last foot became slime. The chair submerged itself in the earth.

First, the statue’s head melted at one point and hung backward. Following this, the government took the head off of the statue and stored it so it could be used later. A wire extending from the 16th president’s neck is the only thing that remains of the head from the 6-foot wax figure of the Lincoln Memorial, which is now being restored.

The statue was placed up in September 2023 at the same spot, but the initial version of the wax monument had more than 100 wicks that were lit too quickly, condensing a large chunk of the sculpture before the dedication ceremony.

With fewer filaments, the updated model was installed in February; however over the weekend, the DC metro area was under a heat alert, and the heat melted it once again.
