Snapchat Introduces Sponsored Snaps in Chat tab
Soon, Snapchat will be testing a new feature that will add sponsored messages next to chats from friends. CEO Evan Spiegel states that until they are opened, these “sponsored snaps” will show up as unread messages in the Chat tab, above messages from friends.

This is the first time that Snapchat has placed ads in such a central area of the app. Spiegel clarifies that users have the option to see or ignore sponsored Snaps, and they will not send out push alerts. To simply dismiss these notifications without seeing them is still unknown.
Spiegel points out that while private conversations are kept private and are not utilized for promotion, these advertisements will allow advertisers to visually interact with Snapchat users. With over 850 million users, Snapchat’s advertising revenue is currently low when compared to rivals like Meta. This feature is part of the company’s attempt to increase that revenue.

Besides sponsored Snaps, Snap is going to let advertisers showcase places on its Map tab, which lets users see where their friends are. This action is said to be a component of Snapchat’s strategy to fortify its digital advertising decision and ease investors’ worries about the company’s potential for growth and profitability.
