The recommended sentence range for firearms offenses is 15 to 21 months. Still, legal professionals say defendants in situations like this frequently get lower terms if they adhere to pretrial release agreements. During deliberations, a juror stated that they believed Hunter did not consider punishment.

The trial came after Donald Trump, who has maintained that the prosecutions against him are politically motivated, was found guilty on May 30. During Hunter Biden’s trial, his sister-in-law, ex-wife, and previous girlfriend all testified about his addiction. Prosecutors also produced bank records, pictures, and text messages that demonstrated his addiction at the time he purchased the rifle.
Hunter Biden’s defense said he did not mean to deceive and was not using drugs at the time. Naomi Biden, his daughter, stated in court that he appeared to be doing well when he purchased the firearm.
The case was launched by Special Counsel David Weiss, who made it clear that Hunter’s criminal decisions during his addiction were the main focus. Weiss has now accused Hunter of tax violations in California due to his nonpayment of $1.4 million.
