PTA rejects allegations of Jazz overcharging customers

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has dismissed social‑media claims that mobile operator Jazz overcharged its customers by more than Rs. 6.58 billion during the 2023‑24 financial year. An audit report circulating on social platforms alleged that Jazz collected billions above the approved tariff structure, prompting speculation that the company had increased rates beyond the 15 percent quarterly adjustment allowed by regulators.

According to sources quoted by the technology news outlet ProPakistani, the PTA has submitted a detailed report to the Prime Minister clarifying that no such overbilling occurred. The authority stated that all tariff changes were carried out within the approved regulatory framework and were vetted through official channels. PTA added that the allegations were part of a negative propaganda campaign and emphasised that tariff adjustments had been previously approved and documented.

The controversy has nonetheless attracted the attention of lawmakers. The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan, has summoned the PTA chairman for a briefing on 25 August 2025. The committee is expected to seek detailed clarification on PTA’s role in protecting consumer rights and ensuring fair tariff practices.

For Jazz customers, the PTA’s statement serves as reassurance that the regulator is monitoring tariff adjustments and that no unauthorised charges have been imposed. The authority encouraged the public to rely on official announcements for information about telecom pricing and urged social‑media users to avoid spreading unverified claims.
